How to configure Gotek floppy USB emulator to work with ABB?

    Has anyone used Gotek floppy disk emulators with ABB robots?

    I recently acquired one to replace the floppy disk drive on an ABB IRB1400 M94A with an S4 controller. However, after saving the operating system to the floppy disks, I received the message, "This is not a boot disk!!!!". I’ve checked everything on the robot, and everything seems to be fine. After researching online, I found that the issue might be related to the jumper settings or the installed firmware. Many people suggest replacing the original Gotek firmware with FlashFloppy or HxC, for example.

    What jumper settings and firmware do you use to get it working with ABB robots?

    The original S4 - S4C+ floppy drives were all 1.44MB 3.5" pc-compatible. It should be setup to operate the same. Sometimes the ribbon cable on some USB floppy emulator drives needs to be flipped depending on where pin 1 is. I'm not familiar with the Gotek brand.

    The key is to have the right software to properly format the USB so it appears to be multiple floppy disks. Most create 0-99 or 1-99 virtual floppies. The same software will likely be used to read each individual floppy.

    The "This is not a boot disk!!!!" message on an S4 appears when you try to load software and it does not see the 'abb_boot.sys' file found on disk 1 of the software disks.
