K-Roset Connection to Controller Error

    I have recently got a new error when I open K-Roset. It cannot connect to the controller. It is only on my current project. Previous versions of the project open and connect without an issue.

    ERROR MESSAGE:

    Controller : R01[C01]
    ErrorCode : ERR-0008-4
    Detail : Communication module._OpenNortc() Failed. ctrlno=0,ret_val=-4129

    The help file (FAQ) and Google haven't assisted me this time - I am wondering if anybody else has come across this issue and has a suggested fix? Thx in advance.

    A problem may have occurred somewhere during the previous close and synchronizing controllers.

    In the folder for the project, you have various sub folders.
    Temporary and inside R01[C01] folder backup, DAT folders.
    - Do you have any files in the backup folder?
    - Do you have a file called default.as in the DAT folder?

    if you like, you could send me a conversation with your complete project folder (zipped up) and I can take a look over it and see if I can recover it?

    Many thanks and yes the issue is like I figured and is recoverable to a previous state, but the previous state may not be your last state, so there maybe some data loss unfortunately.

    FYI for you and other members:

    You have 2 controllers in KRoset:
    1. KRoset (which is the right hand side.
    2. PCAS (which is the virtual teach pendant and editor).

    When you start KRoset and your project it is recommended to enable the controller save options:
    - Plugins/Option/Controller.
    - Tick both save boxes.
    greenman you have these enabled correctly.

    However, this does not mean they always automatically work (from what I have found).
    So it is good practice to make regular controller synchronizing or using the backup controller data option or just doing an all data file saves in the terminal editor, especially if you are bias towards using the PCAS controller of KRoset.

    If you are using PCAS regularly, if this crashes during your project.
    I have found the default.as file can get corrupted or even be empty (0Kb).
    This default.as file is used by PCAS.
    The default.as file is the live controller data used during bootup for PCAS controller.
    Much in the same way on the live controller - That is the CF data used.
    greenman your default.as file is empty.
    This is what is causing your issue.

    When there is an issue with this file and PCAS fails to start ALL the bottom area of KRoset is greyed out (PCAS) side and is 100% unusable.

    This default.as file is located in:- MyKHilibraries\Projects\xxxxxx\R01[C01]\DAT

    If you have been making regular controller synchronizing and using the backup data option or using the Backup controller data option, then an offline file is saved in the MyKHilibraries\Projects\xxxxxx\R01[C01]\Backup folder.

    If your default.as file becomes corrupt.
    You can copy the recent file from Backup folder into DAT folder and rename it default.as.
    Close KRoset and re-open your project and it should load up.
    However, that file is a file that you created and therefore could cause data loss.

    greenman I have done this in your project and can confirm it all loads up correctly.
    As for data loss, I assume there may be some data loss.

    So greenman
    1. Go to MyKHilibraries\Projects\xxxxxx\R01[C01]\Backup folder and locate the last offline file.
    2. Copy this file into DAT folder.
    3. Delete default.as file.
    4. Rename your copied file to default.as
    5. Launch KRoset and your project and it should load back up.

    From there I would recommend to start using the Backup Controller option as below before closing, so you build up a list of last state file saves.
    If it occurs again, then you have a previous file to use as default.as file to roll back to.

    If you want to further explore this default.as file then:

    1. Launch KRoset.
    2. Create a project, do not add a robot and just save the project and close it.
    3. Look in the project folder and as you can imagine it's empty.

    4. Launch KRoset.
    5. Open the project and add a robot, you will then see the PCAS controller start up.
    6. Save the project and close it.
    7. Look in the project folder and you will see the R01[C01] folder and temporary folders created.



    8. Look in R01[C01] folder and you'll see more folders now.



    9. Look in the DAT folder and you will see the default.as file.

    10. Launch KRoset.
    11. Open the project, then look in the temporary folder whilst the project is open.
    12. You will see in the sub folder several files, these are part of the PCAS controller start up now.

    13. Notice the default.as file.
    14. AFAIK that file is copied from DAT to here when you start your session.
    15. That file updates when you have plugin/option/controller save(s) set and you close.
    16. Then overwrites the default.as file in the DAT file.
    17. So when you next launch KRoset, the default.as file is used for the PCAS controller start up.

    This is what I have found when PCAS fails to start in some cases, it is down to the default.as file in the DAT folder being corrupt or empty (0Kb).

    Obviously this is not a rule of thumb as other errors could be attributable to why PCAS fails to start.

    So if you use Backup Controller Data periodically before closing and exiting, you will have a file to rename to default.as and recover it if that is the issue.
