Fanuc Robot with Profinet Communication

    Hi All,

    Recently We purchased a Fanuc Robot with Profinet Communication. In this, we are struggling to establish communication with Siemens S7-1500 PLC. The Details as below,

    Robot Controller Version - V9.40P/62

    Robot Controller - R30ib Plus

    Profinet Card Number - A20B-8101-0930

    GSDML File used - GSDML-V2.42-Fanuc-A05B2600S536V940P2P-20220518.xml [ if this is wrong Kindly suggest which I can use?]

    We are going to use it as an IO Device. So I disabled the IO- Controller option.

    The IP address and Profinet name are set according to the PLC Configuration. [I can reach to this IP address when pinging]

    I have created a folder in the FR directory named "PNFB" and placed the device1.zip file there, as shown in the Profinet manual. I have attached the file for your reference, but the communication is not happening.

    We are transferring 16 bytes of data. So in the PLC also it configured 128 Input and outputs.

    Is there anything else I am missing to consider?

    Could anyone help me with this?

    I have previously uploaded the GSDML that matches the firmware version of the ProfiNet board in the R-30iB (V8.10 or later) Controller as shown in the picture for setup.

    Initially, the ProfiNet board was not recognized by the PLC, and the issue was that the firmware version of the ProfiNet board provided was too low.

    After updating it with the new firmware file provided by FANUC, communication worked normally. I followed the procedure based on the manual B-82864EN/04.03.


    Please check the firmware version of the mounted ProfiNet board and verify if the provided GSDML file matches.

    According to the part number of the profinet board, it seems that you have the Molex profinet board. This should be accompanied by the R834 software option installed to the system.

    But your device1.zip-file (which is not correct, by the way) and the .gsdml-file you used is for when you have the FANUC Profinet board (S536 software option).

    You need the correct .gsdml for your controller type and for this profinet board. Ask your local rep or see if you can get it from one of the FANUC portals (depending on where you reside).

    Look in the latest Profinet Operator's Manual for reference on which file you need. Also, check that the firmware version is correct (it's all described in the manual).

    But anyway the Profinet doc of Fanuc is very confusing, as they mixed up all three existing boards in one doc. :fearful_face:

    According to the manual (Appendix D, which covers the Molex Profinet), A20B-8101-0930 is the Profinet mother board (mini slot) used together with the Molex Profinet daughter board:


    The FANUC Profinet board (used together with software options S523 and S536) is only one piece:



    I do agree on the confusing manual, though.

    just had the same issue. Fanuc put the wrong board (molex) in the controller instead of the new board that is being used. Looks like you have the same issue based on the part number on the card in your image.
