ABB IRB2400L Setup process

    Hello guys!

    I just made this account and need some help with setting up robot. We have this old ABB IRB2400L robot and I've been tasked to setting it up. The goal is to get this robot to weld aluminium parts together.

    So the problem is that my knowledge of these robots is practically zero. I also know very little about welding. How should I go about this project? I would be very grateful of any pointers. I have some manuals for the robot with me and diving into them should clear some confusion.

    What is known:

    -The model is 2400L

    -The controller pendant or otherwise seems to be S4C

    -I downloaded RobotStudio, but the model isn't there so I can't program it with the software? As I understand it should be possible to program the robot with the pendant, so robotstudio isn't mandatory.

    It would be nice to get the robot moving at the least.

    Thank you for the answer! As it stands I haven't gotten the backup info yet. At the moment ethernet cable isn't available and the usb stick doesn't seem to work. Whenever I try to either save the backup straight to the stick or move it to the stick the whole system freezes and nothing happens.

    On the other hand I have been able to move the manipulator arm and the turnable table beside it. Alas it doesn't work everytime and throws 20206 error. At the moment the safeguard swtiches are a mess and running any programs is out of the question. Unfortunately everytime the controlling unit is booted it throws some errors about battery. The Robot is old so maybe the battery is goner?

    I went to Miscellaneous menu > Service > System Info and there it says that the type is 2400L M2000 floor so I think it is S4C+. The battery error is 38001.

    I'll add two pictures of the Product ID here.

    38001: the battery on smb board in the robot socket is empty, you can try to charge it by letting cabinet switched on for at least 18 hours. But probably it is defective and you must install a new one.

    20206: probably because since last use in a robot cell nobody changed the safety wiring for standalone use, like you probably use it at the moment.

    After 38001 there should exist much more faults.

    Always post the complete error message. It's annoying to look for the manual and search for the number to get the text you already know.:winking_face:

    Thank you everyone for replies. With your and one individual's who has been advising me in private conversation help this project is taking steps forward. Much smoother progress than what I imagined!

    So atm the SMB batteries in the manipulator and in the turntable need to be changed. They are goners. Other than the batteries and multiple errors at startup I have been able to move both the manipulator and the turntable manually and they seem to be working fine.

    What is ahead is figuring out the safetyguard system and getting enough space for the whole setup. The safetyguard is a complete mess. The white light is blinking slowly so the circuit is open. Before the robot came here it was used as steel welder and it was working. It's been sitting here a few years so it should work.

    We have at least two Schmersal AZ 16-12ZVRK and one SICK MSLZ light beam barrier and some switches related to them. I'll add photos as pdf because of the limit.

    What I need to do: First change batteries. Then the system should be moved and have enough space to operate. Then the safetyguard needs to be set up around it. Change welding equipment for aluminium. Learn to program the robot and figure out how the manipulator and turntable should move. Together or will the table just rotate for the parts to be changed?

    Am I missing something?
