Hello I am working on M20ib/25 with R30iB+ controller.

I would like to acess the pins of the RI*8, RO*2 on the EE interface on the J4 arm. FANUC A05B-1226-K004 is given as the reference for the connector but I am imagine the pins run back to the controller. It would be nicer and cheaper if we could wire into these I/O elsewhere without the custom connector. I did a little looking around in the controller, but didn't see clearly indicated where these pins are.

You can access them on the CRF8-connector on the 6-axis amplifier:

The pins youre looking for are going to be part of the Robot connection cable. Youre better off not messing with that. If you're already in the controller why not just use the DO/DI?

not true. you can use DI/DO without major purchase. Each Robot comes with a plug that can be used to wire DI/DO.

Conditionally true. This only applies if you are purchasing a Mate controller. A normal controller (R30ib+) will not have IO besides the RI/RO for free.
