Camera wanted(?)

    Many of you will be familiar with the situation: you are once again in a very narrow cell, i.e. it is difficult to see the robot(s) from the outside and of course you can't stay in the cell in automatic mode. :unamused_face:

    That's why I had the idea of placing a small, battery-operated camera in the cell. I had a little look around. I found a lot of battery-operated webcams for surveillance and wildlife observation. However, they are often quite large. In terms of size, something like the go pro or DJI Osmo would fit the bill. But they have pretty poor battery life and proprietary batteries.

    So ... I'm looking for a camera that's not too big and has a long battery life. 6 to 8 hours would be fine, 10 hours or more would be better. Ideally, it should run on AA batteries - I already have eneloops and a charger. A WLAN connection would also be very helpful so that I could watch (and possibly record) the action live on my laptop/mobile phone.

    AFAIK you can use a Go-Pro that is constantly plugged in and charging - Endless battery.

    Thats what i did for a hobby project where i filmed a timelapse of my mushrooms growing.

    If the problem is you cant provide electricity to the camera, then a camera for wildlife observation would be perfect - there is a wide variety on the market and provide easy setup for online monitoring.

    You also need to think about storage, depending on the quality of video your SD card or whatever it usess needs to be sometimes quite large, unless you will upload and store your data on a daily basis.

    The camera should be as small as possible so that I can also place it in ‘the furthest corners’. A power supply via cable would only be a hindrance. All the wildlife cameras I have seen so far are far too big because they have a sturdy and waterproof housing. They also come with too much useless stuff (for my application).

    In principle, the recordings should be transferred live via WLAN to my computer / mobile phone, where they can be saved if necessary.

    I've been looking for 2 days now, but either I'm too stupid or there really isn't such a camera. I'm currently thinking about assembling one myself from a RasPi zero, a camera module 3 and 6 batteries. Then print a housing for it and that's it! :thinking_face:
