Hi. I want to know if there is a physical conection on the krc5 controller that let you know if you are on T1 mode for safety purposes

I believe it depends on which options the KRC was purchased with. A "plain" KRC has safety-rated, discrete wired outputs for operating modes (T1, T2, AUT, EXT).

However, if it was purchased with "network" safety (Ethernet/IP CIP-Safety, ProfiSafe, EtherCat Safety), those wired signals are removed and replaced by safety-rated network signals to be monitored by a Safety PLC.

the only safety rated signals are on the safety interface. KRCs such as KRC2, KRC4 and KRC5 do not have such signals on parallel safety interface (X11/XG11...X13...) but... this does exist if one uses fieldbus as a safety interface and - that requires safety PLC. then you can have safety rated output controlled by safety rated signal. at least one used to on KRC4, i did not check on KRC5.

go through KRC5 documentation and see what the functionality of every physical interface is. that will answer it.

yup, it is there if using fieldbus based safety interface:

...crud, that's what I get for going from memory.

...well, looks like I was half right. Some X11 interfaces had signals for that, but not the baseline. That might be what I was (mis)remembering

yup... and on KRC1 it was possible to also have standard IO on the X11. which only shows that one should always check product and matching documentation. while many things remain, some things always change.

what is the reason for this? what are you really trying to solve?

if safety is involved, it is to protect humans. and that need to be done regardless of operating mode.
