make sure to have correct version of USB recovery stick, then configure it correctly. judging by screenshot you have V1 or V2 stick. this should work on KSS 8.2 and 8.3. On KSS8.3 you may run into space problems since early recovery sticks were small in terms of capacity (8Gb or less).

btw, both of them could be upgraded to V3.x and that would give you newer software as well as more features - including option to only do one partition at a time which can come in handy specially on a smaller capacity recovery stick.

anyway, each stick has manual, copy in PDF format is on the stick itself.

basically you want to first connect the stick to your computer, run the app (configurator) to set it up and place or remove files in USB:\Image folder before using it on KRC.

if you plan on collecting image of robot controller, you would want USB:\Image to be empty, so transfer any files found here to your PC.

if you plan to restore image, place correct image files in USB:\Image folder. those files would be ImageC.wim and ImageD.wim.

Silent mode allows you to run the process just by booting from correctly configured USB stick.

GUI mode boots but does nothing - so any further action would require your input and clicking on suitable menu. Also to make use of GUI option, you would need to connect external monitor, keyboard and mouse to KRC.

When using Silent mode:

If persistent option is set, USB stick will not change the choice.

But if persistent option is not set, after action is completed (backup/restore/whatever), the USB stick will automatically reverse configuration to default "Create WIM to USB Stick"... for next time it is to be used...

Create Wim to USB Stick - collects images of C and D partitions and stores them in USB:\Image folder. if files already exist in that folder, they will be overwritten.

Restore WIM from USB Stick - just the reverse of above choice. Files from USB:\Image are used to overwrite C and D partitions of the robot. so anything on the robot will be lost...

Restore WIM from hidden partition - like previous options but files are not taken from USB stick, they will be taken from hidden partition of robots hard disk drive - if the hidden partition exists and contains the mentioned files. Normally all new robots delivered by KUKA will have factory image there... but that hidden partition can be deleted or manipulated so there is no guarantee that it will work. it may even have image that is wrong version if the robot received KSS upgrade at some time.
