Is the current robotware software required in the media pool to uprgade versions

I have a robot with 5.11.2003.02 installed. It lost the rev counters recently and I have tried getting it back working, the main issue is that it will no longer jog in manual. I was advised to upgrade the software to robotware 5.15 or 5.16 but when I try to build the system it get the error the current version is not available in the media pool.

To be able to upgrade versions do I need the current version in the media pool when building the system.

Its in joint but It doesn't move on any axis. no faults or errors, motors are on but no movement.

I have built the new system in 5.16, I can't go any higher without upgrading the main computer and that also requires rebuilding the system and I/O.

I am going to download then restore from a backup and hopefully it will allow me to jog and I can get robot to calibration position and update rev counters again.

Rebuilding the system in 5.16 and loading a backup worked.

Was able to jog to calibration position then test through movements.

Now the robot is back operational.

I had to stay in robotware 5.xx family to upgrade to 6.xx would require an upgrade to the main computer and some other device in the unit. After this episode they are letting me get a budgetary quote to upgrade one unit. So small victory.
