I am currently in the design phase to commission a KUKA robot for a USA based client.

    This is a Safe Robot.

Apart from the standard norms and regulations of EU, are there any special guidelines or commissioning/ software norms to be followed up for USA ?

    Thanks in Advance

USA of course has its own set of standards. One for robot safety is ANSI RIA 15.06. Have not seen in a really long time since most of the things in robotics are harmonized.

I would just talk to the client...

One that frequently pops up is - no T2 mode. USA uses 480V mains and while the normal KRC4 can work with that voltage (if one selects robot from 480V catalog in WoV), it is better to use NA controller version since it has the isolation transformer so supply asymmetry etc are not an issue. Reason is that three phase supply may be a corner grounded delta. Also you may want to start by selecting UL controller or this could become painful and expensive experience. KUKA does sell non-UL controller on US market but most get converted by KUKA USA. As for communication etc, it is the best to stick with EthernetIP unless you have this cleared by client. ProfiNet is used here and there but nobody likes to see that.

    1) read pinned topic: READ FIRST...

    2) if you have an issue with robot, post question in the correct forum section... do NOT contact me directly

    3) read 1 and 2

As Panic says, RIA 15.06 is the baseline. Many end users add their own specific "extras" above and beyond 15.06, or have their own interpretations -- for example, some hazards can be mitigated by training instead of technology. Major robot users like GM have their own standard that basically subsumes 15.06 and adds a whole load of GM-specific extras.

So first question is probably, does the customer have standards? Do they already use robotic automation, or is this their first go? Customers that don't know what they need tend to be the worst, because they need so much more handholding.

I would definitely ask the customer what their safety buyoff checklist is, and what their internal safety standards are.
