I am having trouble finding the active collision guard value on a robot.

I find if you use the COLL GUARD ADJUST command in programs, the value does not update on the Collision Guard menu page. Digging through some backups, I found $HSCDMNGRP[1].$ACT_RATIO. Some of the backups contain the COLL GUARD ADJUST value I've set in the program, some do not.

Does anyone know where the value I'm looking for is stored or have any additional information?

You can use $HSCDMNGRP[1].$THRESHOLD to read the current collision guard sensitivity.

Is there a variable that can write to this value?

Not sure if $HSCDMNGRP[1].$THRESHOLD is read/write. But you can simply use the COL GUARD ADJUST instruction.

I was able to just write to it by adding $HSCDMNGRP[1].$THRESHOLD=(constant) to the top of the program.

For some reason, I couldn't get the COL GUARD ADJUST to work, but this does the trick.

Thanks for taking the time to respond
