I saw SP signal(just output signal) used on some KUKA integrated robotic cells, but just as an information, that robot controller is shutting down in order to prevent other robots going to Emergency Stop in the same cell, for example in this case "On switching off the robot controller, the connection to the higher-level

safety controller is terminated. This termination is announced so that an ESTOP

does not have to be triggered for the entire system."

But shutting down the controller from PLC side and even switching it back on directly with PLC also I didn't came across :).

I used it on robots that were mounted to AMRs, to ensure a clean shutdown before disconnecting the power and moving to the next station. Doing an "unplug shutdown" was undesirable for multiple reasons.

That said, I too don't understand why they added it to the Safety I/O instead of the regular I/O. It's obviously not a safety-rated signal.
