    Hi All

We have already installed system with R-J3 controller and Fanuc AIF01A module and Mitsubishi PLC installed. Can anybody Please tell me how this whole system works? Can we not connect Siemens Plc directly to Robot to control it? what is purpose of Fanuc AIF01A module? what sort of communication channel will be used PN/PB or Ethernet?

    Thanks in Advance

    Hi,

The AIF01A is an Interface module belonging to the FANUC IO Model-A series of I/O modules.

The principle is that you need a rack for the I/O-modules on which you can put your digital/analog input and output modules. At the start of the rack, there needs to be an Interface Module (like the one you mentioned) that is connected to the robot controller's mainboard through the JD1A-connector.

This way, the robot controller can communicate with the I/O-rack and read/write the I/Os.

To answer your question we need to know if the robot controller is currently communicating with the Mitsu PLC through hardwired I/Os or through some kind of I/O communication bus (such as Profibus, Profinet etc.).

If it's just the hardwired I/Os then it's easy as pie to switch the PLC from Mitsubishi to Siemens.

The AIF01A is merely acting as an interface between the robot controller and the I/O-rack.
