Open the main menu on your smartPAD and select Configuration > Inputs/outputs > Automatic External. There you can configure all inputs and outputs for the EXT interface.
Except of the PGNO_TYPE you have to set up PGNO_LENGTH, PGNO_FBIT and some other variables.

Every KRC comes with a program module called CELL (plus a supporting module called P00) that handle most of the "reading" of PGNO for you.
Setting up PGNO is done through the menu system, as DS186 described. Since PGNO is designed to be very flexible, you set the PGNO_FBIT (this will be the first $IN of PGNO) and PGNO_LEN (the number of bits total for PGNO). So if PGNO_FBIT is 1, and PGNO_LEN is 16, $IN[1] through $IN[16] will be read as a single 16-bit binary unsigned integer. PGNO_REQ is the $OUT that CELL will set when it's waiting for a PGNO value, and PGNO_VALID is a single $IN that tells CELL to "grab" the PGNO value from the $INs.
There's also extra options like Parity, and the various options you've already seen under Type, that are not used often these days.
CELL consists mainly of a LOOP/ENDLOOP containing a SWITCH statement.
The top of the LOOP contains a P00 call that handles setting PGNO_REQ, waiting for PGNO_VALID, reading in PGNO, then turning PGNO_REQ back off.
Each CASE inside the SWITCH (CELL contains a few example lines) triggers on a specific value of PGNO, and contains a "handshake" call to P00, followed by a call to whatever program you want to execute for that PGNO value. You can add as many CASEs to the SWITCH as you need. The DEFAULT case is a safety net if the PLC sends over a PGNO value that does not have a CASE line inside the SWITCH statement.
Yes. Turn PGNO_VALID off, set the program number and turn PGNO_VALID on. Do you have the system integrators manual? In the manual there is a signal diagram for EXT mode which explains everything very well.
the PGNO_VALID should only be turned on briefly to tell robot when to read PGNO value. pay attention to documentation and keep in mind that correct timing is important. some signals are edge sensitive, others are level sensitive. look for ladder example that was shared before
PGNO is 0 until CELL/P00 writes a value to it. You do not map PGNO, you set PGNO_FBIT and PGNO_LEN. After doing that, CELL/P00 will handle the input word and convert it to an integer value, and assign that value to PGNO.
