Hi all. I purchased 2 Kawasaki robots to use in my welding shop. I know nothing about them but was told the worked 5 years ago and have been sitting ever since. Any tips or advice before I just start running wires and start clicking buttons that I have no idea what they do. The 2 machines are a UX120 and a Js-30. They have AD controllers with teach. 1 computer has a disk in the side. Other than that it’s a guessing game of what computer goes to what machine

    Welcome to the forum.............. :beerchug:

There's a very long road of learning for you for sure and with limited documentation and spare parts available and the many different variants of AD controllers that were produced.

If you have never done this type of thing before, you are going to require a lot of reading and patience as AD controller experience (due to the age) is very limited here and may not be a 5 min job to get things going.

As a starter for 10, go to the following link where I and other members have posted many manuals:

A and AD Controller Documents - Manuals, Software and Tools for Kawasaki Robots - Robotforum - Support and discussion community for industrial robots and cobots (robot-forum.com)

The 2 initial hurdles you will face will likely be:

    - Due to the age of the systems, you are likely to have dead batteries for the SRAM and Encoders.

    - These will need replacing.

    - Configuring and wiring the safety circuits and other links that are required just to move them.

There may be enough information in the link above to assist you with the above.

But the obvious thing is to get them suitably mounted, hooked up and then powered up and see if there is life and just what the systems are reporting back.

Then probably grab some images and provide them here so we can see what you've got and we can go from there.

Thank you for the quick response. What is the best way to add a picture?

You should be able to attach some images using the attachments option or you can copy and paste direct into the reply window.

Thank you for the tips yesterday. It gave me the courage to start taking the boards out and having a look. Bad news looks like the batteries on one board have leaked and took out 2 capacitors. I have them on order along with new batteries. I’m thinking about relocating the batteries to an easier location off the boards so this doesn’t happen again.

I will have to upload the pictures to a computer as they will not load on here via iphone

I would of powered it up first, but in light of the batteries leaking, that was a good call on your part for sure..... :top:

Not too sure about the iphone situation, I don't use my phone for the forum so I couldn't comment.

But you should see the same as you would via a PC.

Can you see the following options at the bottom of your 'reply' area, I used the PC snipping tool and then copy and pasted it in the 'reply' area, you should be able to do the same.

Your attachment option should also be available, but you will be limited to 2Mb initially as a new member.

Back on this project. Changed the batteries and relocated them. Everything fired up seems the computer side may be ok. I have 2 error messages (err -1511 encoder battery low voltage)

    PLC communication error.

So you need to change the encoder batteries also, housed in the rear of the robot where the umbilicals are connected.

Just Changed them, now I get a -1601 error. No problem I can bypass with the over ride button on the door as it’s a limit switch.

Nor the next error is -600( motor power off) and still have the plc communication error

    For 600 error, check:

    - Operation Panel Emergency Stop

    - Teach Pendant Emergency Stop

    - External Emergency stop circuit is wired correctly.

    FYI

Limit switches also form part of the safety circuit, so if any are triggered or the circuit is open circuit, this will also produce 600 error.

As for PLC communication error what is the error code associated with it?

There’s no code other that the 600

And all caps under the 600 error is

    PLC COMMUNICATION ERROR

I also see inside the cabinet it appears the estp1 and estp2 have a jumper wire between them. The relay functions with Beth the estop and and teach.

On my 1BP board the EMG and LS led red lights are on

Have you a 1AS board installed - This is a usual component for communications to an AB PLC?

What sort of AD Controller is it?

To add to this I also see the 1GE had a red D1 (miscellaneous hardware error produced by RISC AB
