I'm buying the above robot next week, and wondered if I can add a turntable that I build myself?

You can add anything you like to a robot. In this case the table will not be able to do coordinated motion, so if you only want to turn and then have the robot do work and then turn again... You will need to connect some outputs to tell the table when to turn, what direction and how fast, and some inputs to tell the robot when the table is in position. You will also need to connect the table power source to the servo on circuit in the robot so e-stop will stop the table as well. Good luck in getting the table approved for safety.

Is it not possible to do coordinated motion with the robot?

It is possible. But you asked for a self made turntable. That's the point where things go complicated. May be you can do all the mechanics of the turntable by yourself, but you need the electric parts all from the robot manufacturer, and the software options. You can't build a turntable with a home brew drive controlled by a separate driver and PLC or I/O of the robot, and then use coordinated motion.
When the robot you buy is a used one (I suggest so), then it is possible that adding additional axis is not possible, or very expensive because you need many new hardware. Don't know the options for yaskawas.

Thank you both, I feared that was the case. I don't really need to be able to do simultaneous milling initially, I just think it would be the best operation for some jobs.
I'll keep an eye out for a yaskawa turntable, although it'll more than likely cost more than the arm 😂

You can use your own turntable. You, although, need to calculate what size motor you would need. You would need all the parts to add to the controller. The controller setup for that added turntable and parameters changed. All money spent to have Yaskawa set it up is worth it. They have employees that do this daily. As opposed to someone struggling through it and still can’t change everything.
