    Is there anyone who knows how to take ASCII backup in Fanuc R-J3iC (one of the old controller series). I tried to find in

    menu > File > utility > set device > USB/MC > utility > make dir > “named” > backup.

    But there is not an ASCII backup option over there

    Option display:

    1. System files

    (in system files there in no ASCII option)

    2. TP programs

    3. Application

    4. Applic-TP

    5. Error log

    6. Diagnostic

    7. All of above

    8. Image backup

    Hello,

    Lont time no see a R-J3iC, but if I remember correcly, everytime I needed to "read" a TP program, I used RJ translator.

    Are you using Fanuc Roboguide for opening the Backup?

    Also, are you making All of Above backup, right?

    "Hell...Yesterday it was workinG... I sweaR" :o)

    Hi manavbansal284,

    have to set a (hidden) system variable with a TP program.

    : $ASCII_SAVE = 1;

    1: save progs as ls,pe(ascii) , 0: save progs as tp(binary)

    Backdate/TP-Tools: A small collection of tools that simplify the commissioning and programming of Fanuc robots. (github.com)

    You can also copy the .ls files from the MD drive.

    Check out the Fanuc position converter I wrote here! Now open source!

    Check out my example Fanuc Ethernet/IP Explicit Messaging program here!

    Well, I don't have Roboguide to open the backup.
    Yeah I was taking "all of above" backup.

    @PnsStrater

    Where do I have to use the hidden variable

    : $ASCII_SAVE = 1;

    1: save progs as ls,pe(ascii) , 0: save progs as tp(binary)

    likewise do I have to define it in every program ?

    Where do I have to use the hidden variable

    You have to execute the command

    : $ASCII_SAVE = 1; -->[INST]-[Miscelaneous]-ParameterName)

    just once. (Within a TP-Prog)

    Afterwards all TP progs will be saved as ls/pe or tp

    Set the device to MD: and copy to UD:1 you get all the LS and VA files
