    Hello Everyone,

I am a newbie to KUKA robots and to this forum and I'm posting my question as a last resort because I couldn't find a clear answer anywhere and I'm hoping someone can help me out and explain.

    A few months ago I got a KUKA KR 270 R2700 (2013) ultra with KRC4 controller. And recently I got a KUKA KR 500 R2830 (2013) without the controller.

So what I'm trying to figure out is, are KRC4 controllers universal and can run both robots (not simultaneously of course)? I understand that the cables are different for the motors for each robot. But, the servo drivers and power rating and everything else, are they only compatible with one robot model and not the other? or is it a simple wiring/configuration modification and I can run the KR500 as well on the same controller?

I've been trying to find a clear answer but I couldn't find a direct answer to this. Please help!

    For example a drive configuration for KR270R2700 (using a KPP3-20 and a KSP-40)

On the other side a KR360R2830, need a KPP, a KSP-40 and a KSP-64. The smaller size KPP3-20 is not able to supply the KR360.

Long story short your existing cabinet needs at least a KSP-40 and a KSP-64 (or 2x 64) and any KPP.

    Same applies to a KR500

Thanks a lot! this is what I'm looking for.

Can you guide me to which document or manual I can find further details on the drivers?

    You mean drives...

Contact KUKA with your Cabinet Serial number, but more likely you current wire size and connector won't fit the KR500.

And even if you update your controller, you might not be able to use the KR270 again, because currently you only have one Motor connector X20, while a KR360 up needs 2 Connectors X20.1 and X20.4

One way OR the other

    my cabinet has KSP40 - KSP20 - KPP 1x64 (for turn table)

I might be able to pull it off if I upgrade KSP20 to KSP64 and figure out the wiring issue.

Or invest in a new controller entirely and save myself the Hussle.

Thanks a lot for the help!

KRC4 controllers are modular but there are things to consider...

larger robots have different X20/X30 cabling - two power cables instead of one. reason is that cables have only large conductors for three motors. pretty sure that KR500 will be in that category.

so besides populating cabinet with suitable combination of KPP/KSP, one may need to also replace interfaces (that is internal wiring from the KPP/KSP to front of the cabinet).

    1) read pinned topic: READ FIRST...

    2) if you have an issue with robot, post question in the correct forum section... do NOT contact me directly

    3) read 1 and 2
