Hi, surely it is possible to trace 2D parts using a robot and convert them to .dwg file?
I would like to something that would enable me to do this.
Whether this means converting G code to a dwg file externally.
Any ideas?

Welcome to the forum.............
That's a very generalised question with many solutions available.
Just saying 'using a robot' is like a 'sandwich with no filling'.
A robot is blind, are you looking for it to feel around like a blind man with a stick?
Use a vision camera to detect that there is a general part present and sending a start point?
Just placing an object in the work area and using sensors to locate it and then feel around it?
I did a simple part trace around a an object using a poxy 'proxy' sensor and raster scanning just feeling its way around based on edge detection from the sensor and then drawing the results of the profile as attached.
Did it as an experiment using a poxy sensor I had around, so it's obviously doable.

Sounds more like a job for a CMM machine than a robot, if I'm honest.

if you already have G code, then there is no need for a robot, it is simply file conversion. and instead of DWG you may want to consider DXF (then convert it to DWG using CAD if needed)
