Verification Process of DCS Implementation/modification

  • End user guys,

What process does you company utilize to verify the implementation of a DCS system during integration or after a modification to an existing DCS system? Obviously this is something that HSE should spear head but what over all is your process?

    Machine Integrators,

Same question as above and also feel free to give any examples you seen while out in industry at customers sites.

  • Risk assessment should always be the first step.

When validating make sure to verify that it stops at each DCS boundary, by slowly jogging into that invisible boundary. Sometimes the CAD model doesn't match up with reality.

Also do the same for the different sides of your tool model to ensure it is accurate as well.

  • I find it varies between integrators/customers, but typically a tracking sheet is used to record changes. It also heavily depends on the applications and size of the project. DCSVRFY is fairly descriptive regarding POS/IO changes.

It is pretty common that the DCS safety sigs are recorded (hex or dec) and these are latched by the PLC. Usually requires an acknowledgment on the PLC end to prevent rogue editing of the safety system.
