Make sure that the cable inside is actually plugged into the back of the external port.
Try a different USB stick.
have you formatted the usb stick? Windows formatted stick wont work

I don't know what adapter you use,but the usb stick must be formated like Floppy,on old SC4

Cable is connected, and the drive says it is a floppy drive. I emulated the usb to a floppy disk and tried. Still, the same result.
Does the controller have an RJ45 service port?
I have not had issues using a "normal USB" on S4C+. Insert the USB, go to service window, select backup, change "UNIT" to hd0, select NEW DIR, create directory, create back up. The USB will not just show up, it needs to be selected.
