Kuka KRC2 ed05 Click Status Bar to Get to Windows XP

  • With a mouse and keyboard connected externally I am able to click on the STATUS BAR and get a popup offering to minimise the HMI.

What status bar? The Windows XP status bar? Or the KUKA HMI status bar?

The former should never be visible when the KUKA HMI has focus. I don't recall ever getting the Windows status bar by clicking on the KHMI status bar, but I also don't recall every trying it.

If the latter, then I think the only way to protect the system is to remove the mouse and keyboard.

I’ll have a look around this week and see why it is I can get access to mouse, keyboard and external screen no matter which user is logged in.

That's normal. The only abnormal thing here is getting access to Windows from the Operator level.

But in this environment we have to allow instant access to the cabinet.

...to the inside of the cabinet? That's... unusual. And rather unsafe.

The USB ports on the outside of the cabinet (not every KRC2 had them) can be disconnected from the USB ports on the motherboard. After that, the cabinet could have a padlock or combination lock added.

Does this plant have a recurring problem of unauthorized persons opening cabinets?

  • As I remember (please correct me) using WinXP you are able to connect and disconnect mouse and keyboard without having any problem (like reboot).

I do not know why the cabinet has to be open - but connecting and disconneting mouse and keyboard should not cause any problem (why not just taking mouse and keyboard with you - too heavy load?)

  • What I have seen:

Keyboard and mouse were locked up! Only the specialist had the key to that part! It was a little housing on top of the controller (the user were to see the contents of the hpu on monitor - but could not open the slide for mouse or keyboard)

Do you have any safety regulations in your country?

No lockup on this machine. Open cabinet and all is there to use.

About safety regs: We have lions and elephants here - no safety regulations for mice.

No boot needed when connecting or disconnecting mouse/keyboard. Can add and remove usb as well and all is available under windowsXP.

Cabinet does not have to be open - simply unlocked. Customer requirement for after hours I/O unit.

    Kuka HMI Status bar only.

The site has authorised personnel to access the cabinet. However it needs to remain unlocked as per client regs. They run 24x7.

It would be unusual for anyone other than an Expert to put a mouse into the unit - BUT I am trying to close off unnecessary access because a mouse can be inserted.

  • Hello, i have tested on KRC2ed05 with plugged USB keyboard and mouse...I clicked, pressed everywhere on the screen and I couldn't get to Windows side... But now I managed to get to windows side, if you double click it, you get to windows side rigth away 🙂... That is something new 🙂...

  • Hello, i have tested on KRC2ed05 with plugged USB keyboard and mouse...I clicked, pressed everywhere on the screen and I couldn't get to Windows side, until i logged in the higher user level... So like i said before, someone already made or played with some settings in the windows... Reinstalling also the Windows and KSS later should fix this...

Thanks. I think that is the case. I have attached a pic showing the popup.

This option pops up when I click on the status bare near the bottom of the Kuka HMI screen.

Yes i managed to get also message, but you have to really click on status bar... I was clicking everywhere else... With double click on status bar it got minimized right away... I guess this is function programmed in HMI, when mouse is connected... It is the first time i see this 😁. It never happened even working with VNC, but i guess i never was clicking right on status bar because there are no buttons to be clicked... 🙂 The same thing on Win95 KSS v4.1.7 SP08 just tested it simulator...

I searched for a solution to lock softkey for Minimize and Exit buttons in SoftKeyKUKA.ini, like for example you can lock Delete,Duplicate, add new menu and menu items to HMI,even change name of a button, but couldn't find where this buttons are defined in the file... Other solutions where already mentioned from other members in previous posts... I guess this "function" is intended for the service guys...

You can also write to KUKA about this, maybe they will rewrite the HMI for your case 😁🤞... or try to get KUKA.NOADMIN like FUBINI proposed...

Thanks for all your effort . I'll just live with this for now and see if I can monitor activity in a log somewhere. I'll give Kuka a buzz as well - you never know.

Oh - what I was after in the link I mentioned is the 'lease time' to lock out a user or to go to default user. I started a new thread to not confuse with this 'minimise' issue. Apparently changes can be set in Authenticate.config but there is no change when I amend this file.
