KUKA KRC4 CCU not charging batteries

    Quick questions, maybe one of you guys can answer me by experience. I noticed that some of the CCU board do not send current to the batteries of the controller, thes CCUs do not charge the batteries. When the controller is turned off, it takes something like 1 second before the complete power down, it’s really quick. I tested that with 2 units of the CCU (same version) and good batteries. Then I made the same test with a newer version of the CCU and when I turn of the controller with that NEW CCU the time for the power down is way longer, more than 10 seconds.

    Question is, only the newest version of the CCU from the KRC4 charge the batteries?

    CCU is made from two boards CIB and PMB.

    CIB is Cabinet Interface Board (basically managed ethernet switch with safety node)

    PMB is Power Management Board (basically DC distribution and battery management)

    Every PMB is designed to use, monitor and test batteries. That includes charging, discharging etc. Normally they last 2.5 - 3 years. Without charging batteries would be dead in about two weeks.

    On power down batteries are used to provide backup power so KPC can save files, RDC can store last known robot arm position etc. As this is going on PMB is then gradually shutting down parts of the system that is no longer in need of power.

    If the power goes out instantly, something is not right. There are several possible scenarios:

    batteries are not ok, not connected, or not connected correctly,

    Fuse for Batteries is blown or removed

    PMB is defective or not connected to KPC

    PMB service is not installed or not configured correctly or not running correctly

    Hello again!

    We ended up sending the CCU to another company to get a repair, and the guy said to us that he has 5 other PMBs (00-161-121) working the same way, (one of then is new) when the turns off the controller everything turns off immediately. And when he puts the other PMB (00-226-429) it takes some seconds to the controller to turn off. You agree with me that is easier to win on the lottery then have five other boards with a problem (including a new one) right? He said to me that KUKA probably made a mistake on project of this board and corrected version later. What do you think?
