    Hi

Before I call ABB I would like to ask the question on the forum

Our engineering department bought a brand new IRC5 compact controller with an scara robot from ABB.

The job should use PickMaster picking from a moving conveyor and placing on a moving conveyor

I opened the box and there are no manuals, I look at the connections and I do not see anything regarding encoder connection.

I searched for a couple of hours and everything that I can find is using the regular controller box.

Does anybody has any idea where, how I connect the encoders ?

By the way , nobody ordered the encoders , so I have choices depending on the answer of the question above

I just uploaded IRC5 compact product manual to the manuals section. If you need others, let me know.

    Hi

    Thanks Lemster68

This is all I found in the manuals but I do not see schematics or specifications

I found pictures of the board DSQC 377B, great, even manual, which show how to hook the encoder to the terminals (green)

How do you connect that "box" to the compact controller? . I do not think is internal, so it has to be external.

The external operator panel just happens to follow that bit about conveyor tracking, it is not saying that it must be also installed. I will also post the circuit diagram for IRC5 compact.

Finally got it from the drawings you posted

    The answer is

    XS17 connector --------------------------- DSQC 377B --------------------------------- encoder

    device net

    Thank you once again

OK, great. I was just about to ask if you had the pickmaster circuit diagram.

I have one more "issue" I have two conveyors , each one with one encoder (pick conv and place conv)

    I'm lost again.

Hey, there is nothing wrong with expanding your knowledge  from another source but I still wondering about the solution,

Is Devicenet capable to split its communication ?

If I get two 377B ? Where do I hook up the second one ?

I think is time to contact ABB ? At least I have some more knowledge

I think that you just Daisy chain or use a T connector. They just need different addresses.

Tried uploading Revision L of the Compact Controller Product Manual but it is too big even zipped @ 29.4MB. It has updated info on conveyor tracking. Uploaded newer version of prints

Also have Conveyor Tracking Application Manual rev K and older if needed.

    Thanks Skooter

I found the M revision, then I saw the updated info

    Product manual
    IRC5 Compact
    Design 14
    Document ID: 3HAC047138-001
    Revision: M

    Also found

    Application manual
    Conveyor tracking
    RobotWare 6.08
    Document ID: 3HAC050991-001
    Revision: G

For the purpose of this thread. I found the following

Network based conveyor tracking module CTM-01, DSQC2000

DeviceNet based conveyor tracking unit DSQC377B

Finally now I understand what my options are, how to connect them, etc,etc
