    Hello guys!

Quick question, what is the function of the EDS on the KRC4 standard? We have one EDS, on the RDC, and there's a missing one on the CCU. Why does the robot does not accuses a failure because of this missing EDS? What happens if we don't have them both? Or don't have them at all?

    Thank you!

One on RDC is always used. It stores robot info. this allows RDC to be replaced without having to bring back all the info like in the past. old RDC had flash memory soldered onto RDC itself, but on KRC4 this is separate unit that plugs into RDC which is more flexible. also KRC4 stores more info on that EDS including network and safety config. if this EDS is missing or faulty,

EDS in the KRC4 was not fully used by old KSS (before KSS8.3), so even if missing or faulty you would not see KRC4 complaining.

But KSS8.3 and newer use it to store info for KPP, KSP, RDC etc. This allows you to take one of drive packs out, drop in replacement and power up. KSS will figure out which of them was exchanged and will automatically adapt FSoE address etc.

But if you replace more than one... (for example you swap placed of two KSP in same controller) KSS will not try to figure it out and fix on its own. You would have to use WorkVisual and manually assign correct FSoE address to each of nodes and confirm that by serial number of the unit.

    1) read pinned topic: READ FIRST...

    2) if you have an issue with robot, post question in the correct forum section... do NOT contact me directly

    3) read 1 and 2

    Hello Panic Mode,

Thank you for your reply! So what happens if we don't use a EDS on the CCU? We're using KSS 8.2.25 and 8.3.39.
