Hello guys. First of all sorry for my poor English.
I am new to robotic. We just bought a electric gripper and we try to make a connection to the kuka controller which is KRC 4 Compact. In order to received the input from kuka command how could we make that connection. The electronic gripper is a NPN 24V input and output.
Would you kindly help me solve this problem?

If you don't have all the info, it means that you need to contract someone to solve that problem.

I am a Architecture student who has no robotic background. We have a small robot arm in research lab which I believe no one I know how to use it.
The servo motor is ModbusRyu.
Kuka controller is Kc4 compact

I asked the gripper manufacturers they said the gripper only required a normal on off signal. Could I use this port in order to send and receive the signal.

Provide the manual of the gripper, then it may be possible to help.
There are ambiguities in your posts, one time you say it's something with modbus and then you say it is only needed a on/off signal.
The shown Ethercat module has normal on/off signals, if the gripper has modbus you need different equipment.

Xn/Yn are I/O designation used by Mitsubishi and should be common in Asia.

you also need to watch polarity (PNP/NPN) and if it does not match add something to flip signal.

Pull the WorkVisual project from the robot (Download WV from KUKA.com), and examine the I/O mapping page. That will tell you exactly what I/O you have, and how it's been mapped.

Now I am kind of understand how it works but now another question if you don't mind. Which port should I connect from robot to the controller. ( It's a really dumb question to ask but honestly in my Design lab no one is know how to use the robot).

Again, open the WorkVisual project on the robot. You'll probably need to read the relevant parts of the WorkVisual manual.
The I/O mapping page in the Project will show where that EtherCat I/O module is connected to the robot, and what I/O it is mapped to.
The robot has a large array of boolean Inputs and Outputs, which are available to the program as system variables $IN[x] and $OUT[x]. The I/O mapping determines which of these are connected to your EtherCat I/O. Once you determine that, you should be able to test the outputs by turning on the correct $OUTs and watching to see if the corresponding lights on the EtherCat I/O module illuminate.
