Connect $EXT_START and $DRIVES_ON to logic in sps.sub

  • I have a KRC4 controller and I'm trying to run without a PLC. I can connect the $DRIVES_ON and $EXT_START signals to button inputs, but if I want to incorporate some extra logic (e.g. don't up power on drives or start robot program until a combination of inputs is ready), is there any way to set the state of $DRIVES_ON and $EXT_START from sps.sub? I tried doing it directly and got a message "System variable read only". I can do it by setting an output in sps.sub and wiring that output to another input, but it seems like a waste of 2 inputs and 2 outputs just to reroute signal from the robot to itself.

Yet that is exactly the way I do it -although it's 3 "wasted" inputs and outputs each.
