Communications system noise on a RC robot with radio link and a video camera?

  • Hi,

I am soon due to start work on an RC robot which i am told has a communication system problem. They say the problem starts when the power supplies turn ON.

What are the issues for noise mitigation in RC robots?

For example, i can think of the following problems...

    1...Robot metal chassis not grounded

1A...Robot metal chassis grounded in more than one place causing current loop

2...No common mode chokes used over the signal cables.

3...Power supplies dont have common mode chokes just upstream of them.

4...Power supplies dont have capacitors right at their inputs/outputs.

    5...Not enough signal power

6...Comms chips dont have ceramic decoupling caps right at their Vcc pins.

The power supplies in question are offtheshelf XP power supplies, so i somehow doubt they are the real problem...i guess the real problem is poor signal to noise ratio in the comms system (lack of noise immunity)

  • what is the communication method? IR, Radio, Cable, ...?

what is the environment? what is the distance?

is this something that used to work and just started experiencing problems or, something new that never worked? can you point to some datasheets, design choices (at least block diagram)?
