I am getting an error that states that the encoder batteries are low and need replaced. Unsure where these batteries are located. Thanks for any help!

Depends on the year of this model where they are located.
Irrespective, the battery assembly (dual 3.6V lithium AA Cells) are located in the base of the robot arm.
- Early versions required the complete back plate of the arm (where the umbilicals connect to) to be removed, where the battery is located on the 1FG Board mounted to the rear.
- Later versions had a small plate with 'battery' on it and removal of this plate allowed for easy battery replacement.
1. Always make a full file save before an exchange (just in case of that pesky pixie if he ever turns up to ruin your day) and have the battery assembly to hand.
2. Power OFF the Controller - Encoders have built in capacitors to store charge for upto 30 mins after power disconnect.
3. When Power is turned off, undo the mounting bolts to the rear plate and withdraw it (you should be able to withdraw it approx. 250mm).
4. Locate the 1FG board (this is pretty obvious as it's the only board in there) and on there will be the battery assembly.
5. Replace the battery assembly and tie wrap in place.
6. Slide the rear plate back on and bolt it up again.
7. Power ON the Controller.
8. It should be error free.
9. A standard battery replacement with that alarm should not usually require re-zeroing.
10. Check the positional data is correct by driving each joint to scribe lines and confirming 0 degrees.
11. Also move the robot to a known location to verify location data is correct.
If you have any issues with it, pop over to: Kawasaki S Controller Manuals
I have placed some S Controller manuals here including the Troubleshooting Manual and also the maintenance/motor replacement for the ZB150.

You are having that kind of error because you have never replaced the encoder batteries. You should also do a robot maintenance (change the greases from the axes).
