Welcome to the forum and lets hope we can turn your first experience with Kawasaki into a positive one.
Questions to start with:
I have lots of questions for this, but rather than overwhelm you with them, lets look at this from what you currently have.
Can you describe what you have done in order to say that you are connected but cannot write anything?
Hello,
this is how i did :
1. i Connected RS232C Cable from robot controler to USB port of my computer using an adapter.
2. i checked in setting management of my computer the number of the COM, i found that it is 1.
3. i started krterm-->Options--> set COM1/baud rate =9600/Data bits =8/stop bits =1/parity = none --> i clicked on ADD.
3. i selected connect by list, then i was connected, (i had options to disconnect or reconnect...), but the editor was fully blank, nothing was written there and i couldn't write anything there.
it's the first time i want to connect to kawasaki robot via krterm, i am used to work with totally different robots... thanks in advance
Your procedure and settings look ok to me.
So your cable, is it a NULL MODEM cable?
- It is important Pin 3 goes to Pin 2, Pin 2 goes to Pin 3 and Pin 5 goes to Pin 5, otherwise no connection.
- A NULL MODEM cable does this or you can make your own using 3 wires.
Which connection are you using:
Under front flap, make sure you are using correct one, other one is for Brake Release box.
Also check cable is connected from front flap to CPU Board under metal cover.
If not connected, no connection.

You may not be aware but D71 Controller may have Ethernet connection inside, but port access is not made available at the front.
You need to remove metal cover to access.
This gives you access to card rack file inside and CPU board.
CPU board has serial connection as standard and may have one ethernet connection available and you could use that to connect via KRTerm if required.
I suggest you remove this cover and look at this anyway to familiarise yourself, as you may prefer to use ethernet connection instead via KRTerm as it is much faster for upload/download and online comms.
If using ethernet, I also recommend you use crossover cable and not patch lead to establish communications.
- i don't know if it is a NULL cable, i will have to check this.
- under front flap i have only ports R232C and PCMCIA.
- yes i will check if i can find ethernet port it can be so much better.
Thank you very much for this detailed answer
Ah my mistake, I confused your Controller with E type, sorry for this...….
D Controller may have ethernet available.
You can check in Aux function 08, if network settings there, then ethernet is usually available.
But again, ethernet port is located on CPU board (only 1 on D Controller).
On D71 Cover has fan installed on it yes?
If you remove cover, be careful as fan is connected, so you need to disconnect fan wire to remove cover.
Power off first, then remove wire and cover.
Controller cannot be operated without fan connection connected (ie without cover on).
When cover is removed, you should see ethernet if there or and cable going from front RS232 port to RS232 port on CPU so you can confirm internal harness connection.
Most mistakes are with incorrect cable from outside port to laptop, so I would check this first....
Okay, thanks bro
