IO Commenting - Very painful

They are not stored in the system vars. They are stored in the tpfdef Karel variable file. In order to name them, you have to execute a KCL command.

Place the following into a text file, name it something that ends in .cf, and open it with the file menu by pressing enter on it.

SET VAR [tpfdef]SETUP_DATA[1,1,1].$COMMENT = 'Eoat1'
SET VAR [tpfdef]SETUP_DATA[1,1,2].$COMMENT = 'Eoat2'
SET VAR [tpfdef]SETUP_DATA[1,3,1].$COMMENT = 'UFrame1'
SET VAR [tpfdef]SETUP_DATA[1,3,2].$COMMENT = 'UFrame2'

Try to use zcmcopy.pc karel program to avoid this. comments can be loaded through a csv file.

Don't know if anyone is interested in this or not, but you can plug a USB keyboard into the teach pendant if you are typing out your comments. I've never tried it, but when I took Adv TPP in NC the instructor there said he did it all the time.

Why wouldn't you just use the commenting tool on the robots web server? You can type your comments into the description fields on each of the IO points

Look at the age of this thread. When it started, most of the Fanuc controllers people were working with did not even have that option, or ever would. And there are still a lot of older Fanuc systems out there, especially on the refurb market, and many of those are purchased by people who have little or no previous experience with robots of any kind.

Also if you do it using web server how can you copy comments to another robot? Maybe from 200 register you only need the comments for the first 100.

Try Fexcel from the ONE robotics website, it allows you to change all comments (IO,flags, numregs etc.) from a single excell. Works great!
