I was installing a software on one of the robots at work and it asked me to auto update. I've done this procedure many times before and I did it this time to a robot that didn't have an IMG backup. The auto update failed and now the robot will not move. I have the USB stick that came with Fanuc, I read somewhere that this is an IMG backup. Here are my questions:

    1. Is this information accurate? If it is, I can restore the robot so that's good news.
    2. What sort of mastering will I expect to do (for sure the robot is in another position than the factory IMG backup)
    3. I have an All of the Above Backup for the Robot. Will this help in any way during the process?
    4. What can I do next time to avoid auto update failure? I have the auto update file in the UDI slot, and when they ask for a directory for backup, I select UTI and have another USB there. It seems to work for other robots. Why not this one?

Any help would be much appreciated, thanks!

An auto-update usually makes you take a backup first. Check the flash drive again and see if you find a folder named backup or 00 or files named from and sram.

If so then restore the image backup.

    To your questions:
1.The factory USB drive is not an image backup but contains the original software installation. If you don't have an image backup then you could use this to reset it to your original purchased condition. Then you will need to restore your files and mastering from the AOA backup.

    2. Just load the sysmast file from your AOA backup.

    3. Yes, this helps a lot as I stated above.

    4. Dont use UT1 for image backups. Sometimes it doesn't work. Before you proceed with an auto update, make sure you have a good recent image backup. I always use UD1 for taking and restoring images. You can backup to the same flash drive that the update software is on.

Thanks for the information it really does help a lot and gives me some peace of mind about the robot. I checked the UTI Usb key and I couldnt access the disk on my computer. It's asking to format the disk which tells me it might be corrupted. How would I restore the original software using the factory USB key? I know how to restore an AoA backup but I've never restored original software.

I just want to add a few details to my problem: Yesterday, I installed two options, Safe IO connect and KAREL on a robot in the plant. The auto update failed and as I said before, I don't have an image backup. All I have is an AoA. The controller can still cold start but gives me these errors when I try to move the robot: (SYST-239: Auto Update Failed and Pulse Mismatch (G:1 AL5)). Should I do an Init Start then restore my AoA? From browsing around this forum, it seems like my best bet.

With the USB drive in UD1. To install software you have to power on the controller while holding F1 and F5. Then you select all software install.

If you then restore an AoA backup you should be good again.

If you have pulse mismatch then set mastering done = true in the system variables, then in the master/cal menu press reset PCA, and press calibrate.

If you installed options with a PAC you may need to redo that and then auto update.

So I was trying to run AutoUpdate.cm from the stick and the Teach Pendant was telling me that it was full. I cleared the usb stick and recopied the Auto Update, ran it again and the errors were cleared. Tested the production program and everything was working as expected. I'm so relieved lol. Now I'm going to make an Image Backup right away, thanks for the replies! I learned a lot these last couple of days! :beerchug:
