KRC software

  • hello everybody,

We bought some used KR500-2 KUKA robots. However, all nameplates of manipulators have peeled! so we have no data (e.g. serial No., Model, manufacturing date and etc.) from these robots. Moreover we don't know which controller is for which manipulator and all controllers have formatted already.

How we can figure out which KRC software should be installed on each controller?

Please also consider some of these robots may have following options:
    ceiling mounted
    mounted on linear axis
    extension on axis No. 4
    . . .

    thanks

  • I hope you made a back-up before you formatted the drives? that is usually step one. Also each controller should have a nameplate on the inside of the cabinet.
Controllers are basically universal, the thing you have to focus on is if there is an external axis like a linear rail. If that is the case you need a cabinet which has an extra drive installed.

Every problem has a solution, that isn't the problem. The problem is the solution.

  • controllers have labels too. if the labels are damaged or peeled off, there is a backup label inside cabinet on the right side wall (close to door hinge). with this info KUKA can tell you robot model and serial that controller was shipped with.

btw, where is the common sense? WHY buy something used without testing if it is functional (not "formatted"), has backup, documentation, software, readable labels etc.?

  • What model controllers? KRC2?

Assuming KRC2s, open each cabinet and count the number of KSD modules. Anything with more than 6 KSDs will be for robots that have External axes.

If you're lucky, the RDC cards inside each robot arm will still be operable. So, as you connect a KRC2 to the KR and power up, you should get a Data Mismatch error between the HD and RDC. This should display the serial number of the robot as recorded on the RDC's EEPROM.

  • no, that will tell robot model but nothing about controller. KSS is installed on a controller, not on a robot arm.
