TIA Portal example project with Siemens PLC as master and IRC5 as slave PROFINET

  • Hello mates! I am very new to the forum and this is my first topic.
I am automation engineering student and new to robotics. I have to do an university project with Siemens PLC (1500 or 1200) as Master and ABB robot(s) as slave. The communication will be through PROFINET. It should be some simple tasks like handshaking between two robots or some pick and place task.

I would kindly like to ask you for any example project in TIA Portal with IRC5 controller over PROFINET. My primary goal is to see how the safety and system signals are used (robot signals, cell signals and so).

I need this example project ONLY for educational purpose.

    Thank you for your time!

  • All projects I've done with ABB & Siemens has the PLC as the master and the robot as the slave. Actually, I don't know that a Siemen's processor can be a slave; unless the ABB can accept an I-device GSD definition created by the TIW portal/Step 7 software.

True safety signals would be handled differently than common I/O signals; different I/O scan. 99% sure that a robot can't be a safety "master", it would require a safety PLC (which can be a Siemens PLC).

Hi there, I know that the safety signals are handled differently, thats why i need an example project to see how the things are done with the standard signals from sensors in the cell and safe signals. I meant how are they used like going in automatic, manual, interlock, e stops and so.

  • hello

first you need safety adapter for see the safety signals on IRC5 you need option hardware and software
if you dont have this you must hard wire the cables to PLC safety input side
