Hi, tried 4 usb memory sticks of various ages/makes etc in PC on cabinet door today, appeared to power the sticks but not shown on Filer window. Any ideas?

should read pinned topic READ FIRST before asking for help. For example:
what is the controller version?
what is the KSS version?
what is the BIOS version?
what is the specific USB port you wish to use?
what is the file system of your USB stick?
is the USB support enabled in BIOS?
is the Kuka.USB software option installed?
do other USB devices work (USB keyboard for example)? -
What user group are you logged in as?
What model of KRC2?

Hi all, found solution.
Two issues:With a new USB stick to the controller, you have to tell it (windows) to allow the use of it. This is a onetime authorisation.
[list type=decimal]- Disable NUM lock
- Press Alt and 6, move across new white icon
- When window opens, authorise stick

Then refresh KUKA user group i.e. switch from Expert to User and back again, now you will see stick in list of drive on right-hand side.

Hm. That's not normal behavior for a KRC2 -- normally, inserting a USB stick will make it available to anyone logged in as Expert or higher. If this robot is not a fresh re-install of Windows/KSS, it's possible that a previous operator made some security changes in the Windows configuration.

I have the same problem, except it started happening apparently for no reason.
I have made cold starts, changed to Expert ... nothing, even in Windows.
I checked the USB drivers in XP, and man ! That's a lot of drivers ?
And there's not even the usual "Generic USB hub" line.
Should I delete them all and reboot to start fresh ?

NO!
Not without making a full HDD image backup first, at least. Making changes in Windows on a KRC should be approached very cautiously. Even if you have the original Windows and KSS CDs to re-install from. I don't see any reason why messing with USB drivers would harm the KRC, but Windows tends to be a house of cards in many ways -- one good sneeze, and....
Anyway, I honestly don't know if deleting those drivers would help. There's no guarantee that Windows would detect the motherboard USB hardware and re-install the correct drivers on next boot, anyway. IIRC, Win95 plug&play was more often plug&pray.

Ok, Ok, no messing with the drivers.
I guess the KRC system inherits Windows quirks, there's no way around that.
I bought a brand new 32 GB USB stick, and I'm back in business.
Strangely, the two keys that I used previously to shuttle .src files from my PC to the robot still work on the PC. It's really a pain when stuff "kind of works" like that...

My guess would be that the old Windows version in the KRC is missing some sort of update that lets more modern Windows deal with USB flash memory that's becoming "marginal". Unfortunately, throwing desktop-Windows updates into a KRC is a good way to brick the KRC....

Yeah, I bought a 32 GB key which was pre-formated with FAT-32.
My other keys were larger, and I suppose this didn't please the old Win XP...

I'm a bit amazed that a 32GB stick worked on Win95. Even formatted for FAT-32. I thought that the maximum partition size Win95 could handle was... 4GB?
Regardless, I know a lot of robot programmers keep older, smaller USB sticks around just for using with older robots of any brand, because everyone has this problem to some degree.

I use a floppy disk emulator on the older win 95 models to get around issues like this. it is a lot more reliable. Kuka until recently (i am not sure if they still do) supplied these to replace the original floppy drives.
Never had problems on the XP models and in a few months we will be upgrading to KRC5 (finally). So i am almost done with the (V)KRC2
