Simulation Software

    Hello,

    I am just getting into UR and wondering what everyone thinks of the different simulation software available? I am a Fanuc Guy for 15 years and use Handling Tool to write most of my programs offline and also record simulations to present to the customer. I am looking for something similar for UR. I want the software to be able to represent the actual robot as close as possible. I would like to be able to load programs enter payloads run the simulation and get a close to real world time. then take the programs and load them into a real system. It looks like they have OCTOPUZ that will work but i also see some other ones that look similar. Not sure what the difference is.

    I have used RoboDK in the past, and it seems like a very powerful system, but I don't know if it is worth the price for what it gives you over the UR base sim environment. (Chose to say environment on purpose.)

    The UR environment is easy to set up. Not as easy as say RobotStudio, and to get the software from the UR environment to the actual robot is a bit more annoying, but for just simulations, the UR environment is fine. The main restriction being that it doesn't handle imported CAD very well, or at all. (Don't remember, haven't even looked at importing CAD yet.)

    As far as set up, download the file, grab a coffee, take a leak, then unzip it. Load it into your preferred VM suite, and start it. You can now simulate the UR3/5/10 ON The same software the robot runs, so when you go to run it in the UR robot suite, it just runs. No hickups because something changed on the UR suite and the 3rd party tool didn't grab the change.
