Hi amy12345, In order for a module to communicate in the same fieldbus, whether its MODBUS TCP/PROFINET/PROFIBUS/ETHERNET IP/CAN the controller should have that package installed.
For example, We have a HMI (more or less the same as the Proface standard/basic models) which has an ethernet ip built in and supports MODBUS TCP option too over Ethernet Port. But we have a Kuka KRC4 Compact controller with a Profinet Package. So technically its not possible in terms of making the HMI talk to the controller as they belong to different fieldbus systems. So our chances were, To either get an Ethernet IP optional package from Kuka installed on the controller so the HMI could communicate as intended. Or get a HMI that supports Profinet Or get a gateway device to act as an intermediate. Or I got to read from one of the posts here that there's now a Modbus TCP as optional fieldbus package for KRC4 Controller. Our HMI does not come with an EDS/GSD/GSDML(device descriptor files).
So we bought a Gateway converter which handles the data handling between both the fieldbus systems. So now HMI (Fieldbus 1) <--> Gateway Device(Fieldbus 1 & Fieldbus 2) <--> Controller (Fieldbus 2)
But if you are talking about directly to the controller then i assume you already have the Ethernet IP installed as a field bus option.
Then i suppose you already have the EDS file (you can also acquire this from your HMI supplier). Refresh the DTM Catalog and add the installed devices.
