Fanuc with CP1604 card

    Hi there

I am using a CP 1604 (6GK1160-4AA01) module on our Fanuc robots. Siemens TIA Portal is the software I am using to interface between my PLC and robot controllers.

In the past, I would simple drag in a Fanuc GSD file into the hardware configuration, change the IP address and device name, and that would be it (I would have the robot controller on the network).

This is the first time I am using a Fanuc controller with the Siemens CP 1604 module and I am having difficulty getting communication. I have installed the CP 1604 GSD file on Portal V14 SP1, but when I right click on the module in the hardware and select “Configure PC station online” I get the following: (see attachments)

I contacted the local Fanuc branch, they gave me software to use to create a connection (PFNCT - Profinet Configuration Tool). I have tried everything on this software while following the manual but I am still not having any luck.

Am I missing something on the robot side? For instance, how do I create a connection between the CP card and the robot controller?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

We need more details. What exactly is the problem, do you have any error messages? Which controller type, software version, etc. are you working with?

Regarding the (nowadays there are three) different Profinet options available for new FANUC Robot Controllers:

    1) Siemens CP1604 Profinet card

Needs to be setup using TIA Portal in a stand-alone project, where you specify the correct size of the I/O modules, then export that H/W-config as a .gsdml-file which you then in turn import to your PLC's H/W-config.

    2) Molex Profinet card

Can be setup either through the Molex application on the TP or using the exact same application on a PC.

    3) FANUC/Phoenix Profinet card

Is setup using .xml-file which is loaded to the robot's internal memory. Or if the robot is to be the I/O-Controller (Master), it needs to be setup using Phoenix's engineering software PLC Next.

All of this is covered in great detail in the Profinet Operator's Manual, so make sure to get your hands on the latest rev. of that.

Also, the three different Profinet options are not compatible with all controller types and all system software versions (v9.10P/XX, v9.30P/XX and v9.40P/XX). And lastly, they aren't all compatible with Profinet Safety (ProfiSAFE) across all various controller types and S/W versions.

You have to create a project with tia, where you configure the CP1604 with the byte in and byte out dimension, Than load it to the Robot CP1604 and use the same project to generate a GSD file to use in your actual project.

If you need I can send you a manual

PROFIsafe (PROFINET Safety) and DCS are separate and paid options. If you need it on your controller you have to buy it. For this, please contact your local FANUC rep.
