    Heroman, do you have Kfloppy?

Nowadays using it will be a little bit cumbersome.

You will need a serial cable with the propper pinning (and probably a RS-232<>USB adapter), and Kfloppy should run inside a Windows XP virtual machine, where you will need to dabble with the RS-232<>USB adapter drivers and so on.

But I think this will be easier than try to revive old hardware.

EDIT: Sorry! I misunderstood your message, and at first I was thinking the old cassete adapter was gone. Anyway, Kfloppy method can be a second option, in case You can't use your adapter.

As far as I remember, possibility to create backups was an option in the R-J2.
I am also not sure if making a backup is possible in cold-start, I think you need controlled-start for that??? Anyone to correct me?

You're right. It needs the controller backup option. Kfloppy works with it but it was much faster if you had the PCMCIA adapter card and the right size ATA flash card. Don't remember if backup/restore was done at BMON, CRTL1, or CRTL2.

Backup options are Ethernet,Floppy,Memory Card. Heres a quick reference for a MC back up. Insert card
    1. Controller power off, press PREV & Next at same time hold and turn on controller until BMON appears then release.
    2. Press CTRL(i think F2) and press enter
    3. Press F5 START and press enter, This starts a controlled start.
    4.Select 4,Exit press enter
    5. f4 yes
    6. Press FCTN,Select start(CTRL2) and press enter
    7. Press menus, select file, press F5(UTIL), Select MEM Card, Press (BACKUP)
    8. Select Controller
    9. Press F4 to Continue, Enter a name(not BACKUP), Press Enter
    10. Press F4 to continue
Read each screen as they come up, they will basically walk you through this.

To reinstall, Bring up BMON again, as mention in line 1 above.
Press next > until INSTALL is displayed by a function key.
Press again I think F2 INSTALL and press enter.
Press > Next until Restore is displayed and press this(usually F5).
    Will be promt to run.
Press 1 and enter to continue.
    Once finished just reboot controller.

This is the most reliable method I have found to use.
It takes about 15-20 minutes to backup.
    About 5 minutes to restore.
The Card is faster. Only use 2M. I have not had any success with larger cards. K Floppy is fine, just takes longer.

I have never used the cassette device. Do you have another robot to test it on?
