What is a "nominal" frame?

The Line Tracking Manual repeatedly mentions "nominal" tracking frame.
What means "nominal" in this context? As opposed to what?
The Manual does not give any explanation on this.

Nominal, as your originally taught line tracking frame. All tracking is done in the X+ direction of the tracking frame. Any offsets done to the path will be relative to this frame.
