power on issue

  • Hello,

Complete newbie here. Hoping this is a duh/easy fix. The manuals I've gone through do not specify troubleshooting on this.

Having trouble getting our UR5 robot initialized. It just stays as "power on" with yellow LED on. Joints stuck at "booting" mode. Earlier there was an error message for "Heavy processor load" on elbow but has since not shown up (C5A1/2/3/4/5).

    Thank you for your time.

    Mal

  • In all the weird hardware failures I've seen, this is not one of them. Was this right after a firmware upgrade on the joints or controller?

  • Hi Domo,

It was not. This is a 2 week old purchase and it is not connected to the internet.

Thank you, though, that was a fast response. Appreciated.

  • Yikes. That almost sounds like a loose connection on the data line between joints or something.

On the UR5's there's a thick pair of power cables that runs in series to each joint as well as a really tiny pair that runs data (think RS485). It almost sounds like your controller begins providing power but your data comm is flaky.

There are quite a few spots to take apart and things to try, but if this is brand new / under warranty, this is your distributor's problem and should be a reasonably quick RMA replacement.
