How difficult would it be to get the UR simulator software without owning a UR? (For testing out virtual programs and network comm)

In the past UR has made the simulator available for free for just that reason.

All of the software (including the offline simulator) is available on their support wiki (support.universal-robots.com).

However, by far the easiest method is to use the site ur-update.dk which holds all of the software as well as the manuals found on the support wiki (most of the items on the wiki link here.) You don't get any of the helpful information found on the wiki (installation instructions, etc.), but it is open access.

    You can try RoboDK:
    http://www.robodk.com/

RoboDK is a simulator for industrial robots as well as an offline programming tool.
You can create script programs for your UR very easily. It supports other brands as well.
It is also useful if you want to convert CAM programs to robot programs.

If you have the real robot you can also run programs directly from the RoboDK.

This video shows how to build a simulation with 2 Universal Robots and a conveyor:

I'd recommend to try the robot programming suite from ArtiMinds (http://www.artiminds.com).

With this software (a free trial version is available on http://www.artiminds.com) you can sprogram Universal Robots (as well as Denso & Kuka) as well online as offline. It allows robot programming fully visual - via drag & drop and automaically creates the URscript code and allows direct execution on the robot controller.
Besides the classical features as CAD/CAM, simulation, pathplanning and optimization it offers full integration with the peripheral hardware (e.g. grippers but also force-sensors) making even adaptiuve robot programming possible. You should have a look at the video https://youtu.be/aQJ-zAsfP6w showing how easy the software can solve a insertion problem.

I downloaded mine directly from UR's support site.
Due to lack of experience/exposure to the RoboDK software, I didn't like it much.
The only thing with the UR offline editor download, is you need to download VMware for Linux systems and a WinRAR extractor.

    Hello,

i tried to use the "offline simulation" software from the UniversalRobot Homepage.
I'm using Windows ,the OracleVM VirtualBox and URSim3.4.3.77.
Everything is working fine, until i want to teach in a waypoint, than the URSim UR10 is closing itself.
Is there anyone who can help me or can give me a hint what to do?
