IRC5 to Schunk electric gripper

    Hi,

    I'm investigating if it is possible to interface a Schunk electric gripper (LEG 400) directly to a IRC5 to be controlled as a 7th axis.
    Looking through a Schunk manual it shows a Fanuc and Bosch motor.

    My questions are would a ABB servo motor be compatible with a Schunk LEG 400 gripper?
    Or could a IRC5 interface with a non ABB servo motor as a 7th axis?

    The other option is to use a bosch controller/motor combination, then connect the IRC5 controller to the bosch controller using DeviceNet.
    My preferred option is to use the robot controller to drive the electric gripper.

    If anyone has any experiences with this it would be helpful.

    The robot which you want to install the 7th axis, have it already the electrical system to receive the motor? drive system, software...?

    You need, the system software and hardware to control the motor.... this have some costs. The motor you want to use, it needs have the similar specification that one ABB, then you can use the software from ABB media, Mechanical Unit Manager to set up.

    If you haven't the system ready. Use the devicenet is cheapest way.

    how many robots do you need to do this?
