Gripper Design Calculations

    I a newbie to Industrial robotics and my first project is to layout a design-development for a gripper to pick and place a 700kg metal plate. It would be great if you guys could share some useful information in design calculation for clamping/gripping force leading to selection of actuators.

  • It really depends on the nature of your application. If you're trying to pick it up simply by squeezing the side, that will require a great deal of force. If, on the other hand, your gripper can get its "fingers" underneath the payload, or inserted into holes in the payload, that task becomes much easier. Advising meaningfully on actuators requires knowing a great deal more detail about the nature of the payload, the environment, speed requirements, and other limitations.
