    Hello guys,

I'm from Portugal so sorry for my english and excuse me for the intrusion in your forum, but I've an assignment for class, to talk about Fanuc's Karel programming language. In the beginning I thought that it was related to " Karel The Robot: A Gentle Introduction to the Art of Programming" by Richard Pattis, but right now after reading some threads in your forum I'm starting to doubt about it. Are they even related in any way?

I can't find any info on the web, so if could enlighten me on this subject I would be appreciated.

    Best regards.

I am afraid the only thing in common is the name Karel.

Bad news then.. And what would be a good source of information about Fanuc Karel language? Their site apparently has none.

It looks a lot like Pascal.

It is not allowed by Fanuc to post manuals on this forum due to copyright issues. (Very strange way to promote your product)
But when you google on Fanuc and Karel there is plenty of information available.

I will need to make a presentation in school about this, so I need a lot of "easy reading" information, because we are introducing robot programming languages.

I've done a google search but so far, I've only found the manual for R-J3iB Controller which is a little intensive. Do you have an idea if Karel it's used to actually programming the robot tasks(with coordinates and such) or it's only used to program the interface for the user. Like a background program.

    Thank you!

Well... I don't know if there is any easy reading information available...
In most cases, people take a course in programming industrial robots.

Karel is used to fully program the robot, movement, in- and outputs, conditions and virtualy everything else.

It is a big task to make a presentation about this sort of subject when you still at square one...
I wish you a lot of strength and success !

We are beginners(and Portuguese hence the "easy reading" part), so the presentation doesn't need to be very thorough, just to cover the basics.
But I always want to give my best, so that's why I'm concerned. Thank your for your help!

I have until Wednesday to make the assignment, so if you think you have the time, I will be grateful!

    Hi!

Maybe you can write you questions in Fanuc Karel language and we can answer you with quotes from manuals? Say me your email, maybe I can send some information. In task for karel programming.... maybe you can create some files for exporting into PC, create protocol for communication, in moving... maybe if you have welding robot with welder...then you can touch the object and create plane of their part after touches. If you have web server, you can write program in Karel and call them from web page :uglyhammer2: In my head many ideas for karel and robots) For students I think the best idea is create simple "game" on real robot with moving of robot.
