Where is the "best bang for my buck" regarding simulation and offline programming software?  This stuff can get pretty expensive, can it not?  I can see the advantage to buying software, but will my purchasing department?

depends on what business your company is in.

if you have lots of robots or you programme other companies robots go for robcad or similar, if only a few robots just for your company try to find something cheaper, some robot manufacturers have there own software that you can get cheaper if you buy their robots.

I'm new here, and new to robotics, so I don't really know what "cheaper" means.  I've heard some of these softwares are pretty salty.  How much are we talking?  Hundreds?  Thousands?  Ten thousands?

OCTOPUZ can be added to the first list as well. Its a new software that supports more than one brand of robot and is great for cell simulation/OLP.

Looking to jump into offline programing for some of the cells we build.

Are there any updates to this list as its from 2009?
What are the major players using in this market?
I have seen a video that Centerline is using delmia...
We use solidworks for our 3D modeling...
Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Thanks
