Hello all,

I am new to robotics and I am working with a 30iB Mate controller. I went intoa controlled start to change a variable and now I am stuck in controlled start. When I try to use FCN->COLD START, it says it will cold start after during "Auto Update." I am using a flash drive for backup/software installs. My question is how do I "Auto Update"? Do I need to load certain software on the flash drive? Every time I try to just power cycle the controller it goes right back into controlled start.

I am no Expert either however I know on the R-30iB plus from controlled start you can go Menu>S/W INSTALL>Option/ robot library choose USB 1 after you insert the Fanuc issued load media and then choose Autoupdate and follow the steps. This will make the robot autoupdate. Also you could turn the robot off via the switch and then turn back on while holding F1 and F5 which will take you to the bootmon where you may be able to Autoupdate from there. Like I said not an expert, take this with a grain of salt.

Good Luck! :beerchug:

I have tried to power cycle it holding F1 & F5 and it only gives me Controlled Start and Configuration. So I guess the issue is that I can't get it to AutoUpdate it just says I need to but I have no idea how. Does it require I have a MC/USB drive with the load media? If it does, do I need to just have it plugged in and reboot?

Thank you!

Yes you need the load media inserted before selecting the media type. and I know you can get to the autoupdate choice following the instructions above as if you are verifying and installing an option. Open the options menu and then use next button to show the autoupdate choice I believe is the sequence.  I use the R30-iB PLus controller so hopefully its the same for you.

I know this is an old thread that hasn't had a reply in over 120 days, but this was a popular search result when trying to resolve my issue. I managed to get stuck in a controlled start after installing an option in a cold start. When I tried to Cold Start from the Controlled Start, the window pop-up indicated that I needed to do an AutoUpdate to finish installing the option. This particular option is not available in controlled start so it was impossible to cold start. After hours of searching and finally reaching a software engineer at Fanuc, the solution was to navigate to System Variables and find $OPT_STATE and make that value = 0. Hopefully anyone else out there looking for a solution could find this helpful.
