Has anyone experienced the alarm 4314: serial encoder battery error (S-axis) on the XRC, where only one axis is involved?

I mean, if a battery pack is exhausted, it'll affect at least 3 axes right? But I've came across where only one axis is involved. A defective encoder perhaps?

possible that you have a bad encoder, but it is also possible that the wiring harness inside your robot is bad.  The harness caries the signals from the battery from the base of the robot to the motor itself.

I would recommend you try installing a backup battery directly on the motor itself.  The alarm should clear which would indicate a harness failure.  If the alarm continues then it is an encoder problem.

Good luck,

Yes I agree with robo guru, keep in mind it's not an uncommon failure on XRC encoders with backup battery alarm slice level. this means that although the battery is perfectly OK the encoder monitoring battery voltage level is slightly out. They are a pain but you can keep them running by ignoring  alarm display (if it's still letting you) and keep programs backed up on CP card. This axis is easily realigned if new motor is fitted as a 5mm key-way is fitted at Origin position but just check what it is at present, where all your programs are written & referenced.

Alright thanks all. Another thing I noticed is the home position never get wiped out even when I turn off the controller. Well, I'll try to ignore the alarm then.  beerchug
