Does anyone has worked with vision for metrology on a robot ?
Want to inspect dimensions and locations of parts/holes on metal frame.

Hello,

it depends on how big is your workpiece. I used a Cognex to search for a hole into a steel bar. We measured the diameter and shifted the welding job. The Fild of View was about 200x200mm it was very accurate. 0.1mm

You have many options!
Can you post more info?

What type of robot do you have?

I want to use robot with vision as a CMM. Only measuring part with a third party software.
The robot moves the camera or parts all around and generates cloud of points that could be use by a software to do a compare to cad.

Hello Lerak,

I used a Robot with a vision to inspect and measure a car engine block.
Normally we use Cognex cameras but in this case I used a line scan PC based and had an accuracy among 0.03mm (on vision system this variation was 1 pixel ).
The robot with camera scan all faces from the block and execute measuring on every face but
the problem is that we just measure elements in the same face, failing to take steps to other side as a reference.

Thanks Guilherme

I plan to use M710 or R2000 robot.
I want to measure with the accuracy of a CMM, not for process use (prog shift or other).

I found different kind of cameras (with lightning, with laser trace, etc...), but look for a kind of turnkey project for the system (exept robot integration.)

I need to measure points from differents faces that should be link together.
I have to measure sizes and/or positions.

I used a M710 iC.
I tried to develop a system that works like a Cordinate Measuring Machine, using one software that we (Pollux) developed integrated with a line scan camera system - pc based - (First photo - in test).
But the solution missed the expectancy of the client so we did a reproject with area scans camera Cognex - embeded processing - (Second photo - on client).
With this is not possible measure points from differents faces like you want, just verify components, process marks, datas and measure isolated compontonents.
I found another produts to integrate on system and do it measure, and I found a Micro- Epsilon laser that give you a 3d 'picture' and you can analyse with software tools but it was much expansive for the project.

Thanks again !

For sure it's an expensive system, some cameras i found cost over $100,000.
