does anyone know a good site to learn more about kinematics? i've never really had the need to know it, but its something that i'm interested in learning about.

This is a huge topic, it really depends what aspect your interested in.   For starters the following book has a good section on this topic.

"Planning Algorithms" By Steven M. LaValle, Copyright 2006

"Robot Modeling & Kinematics" by Rachid Manseur is another decent textbook.
